Gather at 6:30ish for the pre-ritual-preparation activity.
Ritual starts at 7:00.
Odd Fellows Cupertino 70 Lodge, 20589
Homestead Rd, Cupertino, California 95014
The Feast: Drinks will be provided; please bring a contribution to the potluck.
This is a highly participatory event. There will be singing, dancing and a game. In the spirit of Saturnalia fun, you are invited and encouraged to offer an entertainment to the God and the coveners, such as a generic seasonal toast, a song, poem, magic trick, joke, bad impersonation of Chewbacca/Elvis, a demonstration of your jump–rope abilities… Creativity is welcome and appreciated. Because of time constraints, please limit your entertainment to less than 60 seconds. You do not have to sing all 300+ verses of “Old Time Religion”; 2 verses and a rousing chorus will do. This activity is optional on your part, but it’s more fun if you share something. Feel free also to simply sit back and enjoy.
Other Stuff: It was customary to wear a red hat for Saturnalia. If you want to wear something red on your head, please do! A Santa hat…bandana…feathers…flowers…it’s all good.
Oh – did we tell you about the dares? No? Well, you’ll find out when you get there. It will be fun, we promise.
Please bring a dish to share for the potluck and a suggested donation of $10-20 (no one will ever be turned away for lack of funds).
Guidelines for Potluck:
Please bring food that is ready to serve. There will not be anyone there to cut up a whole chicken or slice a loaf of bread. Assume you will not have access to a refrigerator or stove on site.
Please mark your platter/bowls/serving utensils and remember to take them with you when you leave. If there is leftover food, please take it with you.
If possible, please label your food so those with food restrictions will know what’s in it.
Bring something you like and will want, that way you are guaranteed to like something.
Most of our potlucks are meals (unless the invite says otherwise) so main dishes, salads, side dishes, desserts, non-alcoholic beverages to share are all welcome.
Be polite, friendly, and considerate of others.
Use common sense.
Ask the owner before touching items (drums, altar item, jewelry, etc.)
Stop chatting and turn off your phone when the ritual is about to start.
Rituals are participatory, so please join in when asked.
A cast circle is a sacred space so don’t be disruptive.
Assist in the post-event clean-up – please take care of your own trash.
Be discreet if you run into people elsewhere, not all Pagans are public about it.
The requested donations are used to pay for our insurance and site rental fees. No one will be turned away for lack of funds, but these contributions are essential to our continued existence.
South Bay Circles (SBC) is an association of several local groups, covens, and solitaries who come together for the specific purpose of presenting shared ritual celebrations of the Eight Sabbats of the year in the San Francisco South Bay Area.
